A Somaliland delegation secretly meets with Somalia in Djibouti

Djibouti(SD)-A delegation from Somaliland and Somalia held a brief meeting in Djibouti, sources told the Geeska newspaper.

The meeting, according to the Horn of Africa’s source, took place in Djibouti on 18 October and was attended by Somaliland Foreign Minister Yasin Haji Mohamud Hirir (Faratoon) and Ms. Edna Aden Ismail.

Somalia’s delegation was led by lawmaker Abdulahi Sheikh Ismail who chairs the committee appointed by the President of Somalia for the Somaliland and Somalia talks.

According to the sources, there were no results from the meeting, except that it was agreed to resume the talks between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.

But there is no timetable set for those talks between Somalia and Somaliland to resume.

The presidents of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi and Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo visited Djibouti on a separate trips in September, There are reports that President Guelleh wants to resume talks between Hargeisa and Mogadishu and to have the two presidents meet there, and it could be that Bihi and Farmajo were pleased to reopen the talks.

Somaliland on multiple times denounced both the talks and the Somalia’s reconciliation committee and plan.

UCID chairman also declared the Djibouti president the number one Somaliland enemy, and said Somaliland will never allow Djibouti to host the talks.

It will be interesting to see how the Somaliland public to react the secret meeting between Somalia and Somaliland in Djibouti.
