Hargeisa (SD) – The British Government has announced that it will stop providing support to the RRU troops in the Somaliland Police – as announced by Somaliland’s Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed.

The RRU were meant to be a counter terrorist force in Somaliland, however, successive Kulmiye governments politicised their function.

There were multiple complaints made by the public, due to the government’s use of the forces.

The British government were made aware of the ordered abuses of the RRU and requests were made to the British by the Somaliland Civil society.

The forces were seen arresting political dissidents, Journalist and civilians alike.

Britain will suspend Funding for Somaliland’s Rapid Response Unit police force on March 31 according the Interior Minister.
