Ethiopia: Somali Region Responds to US Security Warning

Jigjiga(SD)-The Ethiopian Somali Region government has issued a response to the US warning over the security situation in the Region.

Mohammed Muhumed Olad, the president’s media and communications advisor told the local government media that they worked to telling the United States that the report did not reflect the security situation in the region.

“US State Department issued a warning to its citizens who are to travel to the Somali region, and suggested to consider other areas of the country before traveling to our region, and this is a surprise. When we reconsider the warning, the information and the details of their decision made, it’s clear that it was a reflection of the security crisis and instability in the region a years ago.” said Mr. Olad.

“Among the warnings was that the Oromo and Somali communities were experiencing ethnic conflict and security problems in the operations of the federal military and the armed groups such as the ONLF and other groups, according to the data, It has been a while since the federal government has been conducting security operations against armed groups, and the Oromo and Somali conflicts at the border have stopped” he added.

“When we reconsider the warning, the information and the details of their decision made it clear that it was a reflection of the security crisis and instability in the region a years ago.” said Mr. Olad.

“We have discussed it with the relevant authorities, and have expressed our deepest condolences to them, and we hope that they will formally respond and confirm the other way forward” concluded Mr. Olad.
