Former Somalia Presidents criticize Farmajo’s Somaliland approach

Mogadishu (SD) – Former Somali Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed spoke to the media in Mogadishu today regarding Farmajo’s Somaliland approach.

First, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud criticized President Farmajo’s government in its negotiations technique and their plans to re-unite with Somaliland.

“The situation in Somaliland has been going on for over 30 years, and the Somaliland people have been through a lot of problems. I’ll just accompany someone (Ethiopian MP) who is going to Hargeisa and will solve issues is not possible, I do not know who advised the president to do that, the president’s advisers are out there today, and saying in public, that these people (Somaliland) are traitors, who separated the country, that they should be punished, and say what happened to the people was right, these are the people advising the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.” sad Hassan Sheikh.

President of the Transitional Federal Government Sharif Sheik Ahmed said that it would be appropriate to discuss Somaliland’s concerns and where we are headed in the future, but the relevant question is who involved the neighboring countries in our national affairs.

“Does the president believe the previous government was correct in the case of the northern regions, were they keeping the unity? Or does he believe something went wrong? “Make it clear,” said Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, leader of the national party forum.

Somali political insiders believe that the former presidents, while partisan, seemed reasonable about the whole situation, under their rule, Somalia and Somaliland met and discussed possible solutions.

However, the current Somali president, Mohamed Farmajo can’t seem to choose between his apparent tribal allegiance to the Siyad Barre regime and leading the country in post Siyad Barre era.
