IGAD appoints new leadership, crushing Farmajo and Guelleh’s ambitions

Addis Ababa (SD) – The 13th summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has concluded in Addis Ababa today.

At the end of the two-day meeting, the leadership of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) was reformed, Sudan’s new Prime Minister Abdalla Hamduk has been elected as the Chairman of IGAD.

Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamduk was a key member of the Federal Government’s National Finance Committee before being appointed to the Prime Minister’s office in Sudan.

Also Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has been appointed to Workneh Gebeyehu of Ethiopia.

The IGAD chairmanship has been contested between Djibouti and Kenya, which also has contested for the African Union’s seat at the United Nations Security Council.
