Somali Government Denies Removal of lawyers Defending Maritime Case

Brussels(SD)-The Somali government has denied reports in recent days that the Somali government has dissolved the maritime advocates in the ICJ case.

European Union Ambassador to Somalia Ali Said Faqi said the information was unfounded, citing a Somali-born woman, a lawyer named Muna Sharmaan who had left the country voluntarily after getting a job somewhere else.

Ambassador Fiqi said Muna could not be excluded in the maritime lawsuit, and instead deserved a reward, citing shame and disgust for spreading such information.

He denied there were new lawyers hired by the Somali government, saying that the advocates of the case remain, except for Muna.

The ICJ adjourned until June 2020 at sea after the Kenyan government requested a year-long delay.
