Somaliland former rebels reject Farmajo’s visit to Hargeisa

Hargeisa (SD) – Several Somali National Movement (SNM) officials and politicians from Somaliland have held a press conference in Hargeisa to remark on President Farmajo reported visit there.

Officials from SNM strongly protested Farmajo reported upcoming trip to Hargeisa, and openly in a strong language rejected the president’s pending arrival.

They also announced that President Farmajo is reluctant to acknowledge the genocide committed by the revolutionary government in the northern regions, during Siyad Barre’s regime, now known as Somaliland, and does not want to acknowledge the magnitude of the genocide.

Officials said now is not the appropriate time to open talks with the federal government of Somalia led by President Farmajo, until he acknowledges the genocide.

“We reject to Farmajo visit to Hargeisa, it is a mistake, and if he arrives in Hargeisa, he will find something unpleasant,” said Ibrahim Dhagaweyne, a senior SNM official who spoke to the media.

He added: “The man who failed to acknowledge the magnitude of the genocide and apologise, court marshal the propitiators. No one can attend or open a dialogue with him unless these three points are answered.” Said Dhagaweyne.

Somaliland president Muse Bihi is expected to speak at a joint session of the Somaliland Parliament tomorrow on the annual constitutional speech, which he is expected to address his meeting with Farmajo in Addis Ababa and clarify whether Farmajo is coming to Hargeisa or not.
