Somaliland Parliament recalled

Somaliland President re-called back the country’s parliament for an extra-ordinary session for the confirmation of the two electoral commission members selected by Somaliland opposition parties UCID and Wadani.

The president’s request comes at a time when the House of Representatives sessions have been suspended due to Corvid-19, causing issues with the planned elections of 2020.

Efforts to have the two confirm the opposition’s electoral representatives have been going for the past few weeks.

The opposition are worried that the MP’s opposing the upcoming election will use Covid-19 fears to postpone their election, yet again.

The Somaliland House of representatives were last elected in 2005, effectively avoiding re-election since.

Somaliland parties along with the EU ambassador to Somalia Nicklas Berlanga forged an agreement to hold local and parliamentary elections this year.
