Somaliland warns Somalia against false election claims, reiterates it’s Independence

Hargeisa (SD) – The Government of Somaliland has issued a statement saying that it has nothing to do with the upcoming elections in Somalia, and that they’re separate and independent state from Somalia.

The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland addressed to the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union and some international countries.

“The Government of the Republic of Somaliland informs the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, and the international community in general, that the Republic of Somaliland is an independent state that has nothing to do with Somalia’s stagnant electoral system.” said a press release from Somaliland.

Somaliland reiterated to be an independent country with a democratic electoral system, and the people elect representatives to the executive, legislature and local governments.

“The Republic of Somaliland regained its independence on 18 May 1991, 1960. Thirty years later, Somaliland is an independent country with a democratic electoral system, and the people elect representatives to the executive and legislature and local governments, in a free and fair one person, one vote elections. ”the statement said.

Somaliland has accused the federal government of Somalia and politicians from Somaliland that they are misleading the international community.

“Therefore, the government of the Republic of Somaliland warns the Somali administration and politicians against making false and misleading illusions that are misleading the international community,” said a statement from the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” the statement said.
