The EU and UNPOS Launch Scholarship Award for Somali Students

Mogadishu (SD) – The European Union and UNOPS have announced the launch of the Resilience Scholarship Award for Somali students.

The purpose of the scholarship is to help qualified Somali students earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in climate change, nutrition and sustainable solutions, according to a press release by the EU.

The scholarship is said to be part of the EU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational opportunities for young people, especially young girls, with the aim of enhancing of Somali students expertise and knowledge.

“If stability and participation are the pillars for a prosperous future, education represents its multiplying effect. The Resilience Scholarship Award is just one example of EU’s commitment to the future of Somalia,” said the EU Ambassador to Somalia Nicolas Berlanga.

“Building expertise relating to resilience and climate change will encourage durable solutions for the future. Additionally, 50 percent of the scholarships will be allocated for female students to make sure women scholars take full part in Somalia’s development,” the Ambassador added.

If you are a student interested in applying, fill in the Application Form HERE(link is external) and attach the required supporting documents. The deadline for submitting applications is 20 October 2020, 5:00 pm Eastern Africa Time (EAT).

The Resilience Scholarship Award is designed to cover student expenses for one year. Up to 20 scholarship opportunities will be provided to eligible students with 50% aiming to be women Applicants.

The list of scholarship winners will be announced at the end of November 2020.
