MOGADISHU (SD) – The Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, announced today that the official distribution of voter ID cards will begin next week in Mogadishu, targeting individuals who have previously registered and reside in the Banadir region.
The Chairperson stated that this step is a significant move towards holding district-level elections across the country. He mentioned that the commission has prepared all necessary materials and technical plans for implementing the voting system.
“It is a pleasure for us to announce that registered individuals in the Banadir region will receive their voter ID cards, enabling them to legally participate in the upcoming elections,” said Chairperson Abdikarim.
He also noted that the distribution of voter ID cards will begin next week in the coastal districts.
The Somali government has reaffirmed its commitment to holding district-level elections, despite opposition from various sectors regarding the government’s approach.
