HARGEISA (SD) – The administration of Somaliland has confirmed that an unplanned clash occurred at the Egal International Airport during the departure of former President Muse Bihi to the United Arab Emirates.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a lack of prior coordination regarding his travel arrangements with the airport authorities.
The Minister of Aviation, Fu’ad Ahmed Nour, stated that Bihi arrived with a convoy of vehicles exceeding standard protocol, which caused tension and confusion. He noted that a meeting was held afterward, and an agreement was reached to manage his future travel in a more organized manner.
Police Spokesperson Abdiasis Sheikh Ismail reported that the confrontation escalated when members of the public attempted to force their way into the airport. The police have ordered the detention of the soldier who fired shots for investigation.
He added that the Police Commissioner has appointed a special committee to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
This is not the first time security personnel from the former president’s detail and airport security have clashed, with similar events having occurred previously.
