Somaliland President Holds Historic Meeting with Israeli President and Eric Trump

DAVOS (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), last night held a historic, high-level meeting in Davos with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, and Eric Trump, son of the President of the United States.

The meeting marked a new, historic chapter in the diplomatic and strategic partnership emerging between the international community and the two nations of Somaliland and Israel.

During this meeting, the two Presidents engaged in in-depth discussions on how the two nations could cooperate in their shared interests and collaborate on promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The President of Somaliland sincerely thanked the President of Israel for the official recognition extended by the State of Israel to the Republic of Somaliland on December 26, 2025, describing it as a historic step of courage and significance that, after 34 years, truly affirmed the right of the people of the Republic of Somaliland to become an independent state among the international community.

Similarly, joining the two Presidents at this high-level meeting was Eric Trump, the son of the President of the United States.

The President of Somaliland assured the President of Israel that Somaliland is a peace-loving, responsible state, grounded in stability, democracy, good governance, and the rule of law.

Holding this meeting at Davos, the world’s premier gathering for global elites, is a masterstroke. It transforms the historic bilateral recognition into a mainstream, high-level diplomatic event on the global stage. The venue conveys that Somaliland’s statehood is a serious topic among world leaders and financiers, not a fringe issue. It normalizes and elevates Somaliland’s presence in international forums.

Eric Trump’s presence is the most explosive element. While he holds no official position, his involvement sends a clear message: the Trump political dynasty is personally invested in the Somaliland issue. This heavily suggests that if and when Donald Trump reviews the US policy toward Somaliland, it could lead to possible recognition. It potentialy effectively pre-negotiate a key foreign policy shift with the potential next U.S. administration.

By showcasing this high-profile alliance at Davos, Somaliland and Israel are demonstrating that they can create their own facts and diplomatic community outside the AU’s framework. It dares the AU and Somalia’s allies to match this level of high-stakes engagement. It makes Somalia’s diplomatic efforts to maintain its false territorial integrity look increasingly isolated and outmaneuvered on the world’s most visible stage.
