Farmajo deploys 2nd batch of troops in Dolow as tension over region’s control builds up

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Federal Government has today deployed second batch of its elite forces in the Gedo region hours after Jubbaland warned further instability in southern Somalia.

Two planes carrying the Turkish trained Haram’aad Forces landed in Dolow town Saturday morning with sources noting they will be distributed within the region.

According to sources privy to the deployment, majority of the forces will be moved to Beled Hawo town which last January hosted fierce fighting between Somali forces and militants of the federal territory of Jubbaland.

The today’s deployment follows another batch of heavily armed soldiers who landed in Dolow town on Friday, a move said could deteriorate the region’s insecurity.

In a statement on Saturday, Jubbaland state accused President Mohamed Farmajo of deploying troops and heavy weaponry in the Gedo region, warning that Farmajo will be responsible for any conflict or instability in the Gedo region as a result of the deployment.

“The Government of Jubaland declares that the responsibility for the outcome of this conflict will be borne by the outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo,” the statement read in part.

The Madobe-led administration has been at loggerheads with Farmajo administration.
