Federal Government Accuses Jubaland Leader of Provoking Deadly Clashes in Gedo Region

MOGADISHU (SD) – Press Release from the Federal Ministry of Internal Security Strongly Condemns Today’s Renewed Fighting in Balad Hawo District, Gedo Region Between Federal Government and Jubaland Administration Forces

A press release issued by the Ministry of Internal Security of the Federal Government has strongly condemned the renewed fighting today in Balad Hawo district of Gedo region between Federal Government forces and Jubaland administration forces.

In the released statement, Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe was accused of once again provoking conflict in Gedo region, with the government claiming he commanded militias to attack Somali National Army bases and public areas in Balad Hawo town of Gedo region today, Friday.

“This attack, which caused the brutal loss of Somali citizens’ lives, is intended by the accused to expand his crimes and further divide the people of Jubaland in general, and particularly the residents of Gedo region, whom he has long subjected to oppressive actions,” stated the government’s message.

“The Ministry of Internal Security, in cooperation with judicial institutions, is tracking all individuals involved in these crimes operating under the name of Jubaland’s people, with several persons already identified as participating in the spilling of citizens’ blood and violation of their rights,” the government statement further added.
