National Electoral Commission Announces Completion of Voter Registration in Banadir Region

MOGADISHU (SD) – The Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC), Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, announced the completion of voter registration for the “One Person, One Vote” elections in the districts of the Banadir region.

The Chairman stated that nearly one million residents living in Mogadishu have been registered and will have the right to vote.

“The Mayor of Mogadishu and the District Council will be elected on October 30, and voting will be conducted by ballot,” said NIEC Chairman Abdiqarin Ahmed Hassan.

“The people of Mogadishu will vote for the District Council and the Mayor of Mogadishu. We are very pleased that close to one million people have registered with us, whose list we will announce on the 27th of this month,” stated Abdiqarin Ahmed Hassan, Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission.

Final voter list to be published on the 27th of the current month

This marks a crucial step in Somalia’s democratic process as the country prepares for its first direct elections in decades under the “One Person, One Vote” system. The large number of registered voters demonstrates significant public engagement in the electoral process.
