BOSSASO (SD) – The President of Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni, today received a delegation from the Turkish government led by Turkey’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş.

The visit follows prolonged discussions between Puntland and Turkey regarding the MV Sea World vessel and its disputed cargo. Turkey has jointly verified with Puntland its legal claim over the ship’s contents.

After reviewing evidence submitted by Puntland and investigations into the ship and its cargo, authorities agreed to transfer responsibility for the MV Sea World and its contents to Turkey.

Puntland forces had earlier seized the Turkish-owned vessel off the coast of Bareda, Bari region, after discovering it carried weapons and military supplies allegedly destined for the Federal Government of Somalia.
