HARGEISA (SD) – A high-ranking advisor from the Puntland Presidency has been in Hargeisa for the past three weeks, local sources report, where he held private discussions with Somaliland President Abdirahman Irro.
Reports indicate that the talks focused on implementing a peace agreement regarding the recent conflict in Erigavo, Sanag.
The advisor, whose name has not been officially disclosed, was assigned by Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni to work with President Irro on renegotiating the Erigavo peace deal.
This comes after Somaliland recently declared its readiness for a ceasefire to resolve the clashes that erupted in the town.
Last month, the leaders of Puntland and Somaliland held a meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, where they agreed to collaborate on finalizing a peace agreement to end the conflict in Erigavo.
The clashes involved Somaliland forces and SSC-Khatumo troops, leading to mass displacement from the town.
Deni and Irro also agreed to coordinate military operations targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the Almadow Mountains, where Puntland has launched an offensive.
Meanwhile, a separate military operation named Onkod is currently underway in parts of the Bari region to eliminate terrorist threats.
