MOGADISHU (SD) – The National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced today that the District Council elections will now be held on December 25th, following a delay to the previously scheduled date of November 30th.
The Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, stated that political organizations may continue their election campaigns until the official election day.
He urged citizens to collect their voter registration cards to ensure their participation in the upcoming national elections.
The schedule change has been met with opposition from several political organizations. They have expressed concerns regarding the electoral process, questioning the independence of the National Electoral Commission members.
The Electoral Commission attributed the delay to technical and preparatory issues but affirmed its commitment to holding the elections on the newly announced date.
