HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland President’s Spokesperson, Mr. Hussein Adan Irro (Deyr), stated that the remarks made by the Prime Minister of Somalia, urging their diaspora to demonstrate at the British Parliament, reflect the fear his administration harbors in facing reality.
Spokesperson Hussein Deyr added that Somaliland, being a stable and democratic region, is entirely different from Somalia, which has been plagued by insecurity, collapse, and reliance on foreign forces, as he noted.
The President’s spokesperson criticized Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s call for their diaspora to pressure MP Gavin Williamson and other lawmakers who support Somaliland’s right to recognition and the achievements it has made over the past 34 years.
“The Somali Prime Minister’s statement, ‘Come out and take action,’ reveals anger and frustration stemming from the reality his government is evading,” said spokesperson Hussein Deyr.
Mr. Hussein Deyr accused Somalia of being dependent on financial handouts and foreign troops, while its leaders are not elected but rather appointed.
The President’s spokesperson also highlighted that Somaliland has conducted fair and democratic elections witnessed and commended by the international community. He emphasized that power in Somaliland is transferred peacefully, as the country is built on the will of its people.
The spokesperson argued that Somaliland stands for stability, democracy, and self-reliance, while the administration in Mogadishu is characterized by collapse, chaos, corruption, and dependence on foreign support.
Finally, the President’s spokesperson noted that Somaliland’s recognition is not a request but a reality whose time has come, expressing strong confidence that the independent nation will soon be officially recognized.
