Vessel Carrying Weapons and Military Equipment Seized at Bossaso Port in Bari Region

BOSSASO (SD) – A vessel named Sea World, reportedly carrying weapons and military equipment, has been detained at the port of Bossaso, the capital of Somalia’s Bari region.

This comes after the ship was intercepted yesterday along the coast of the Bareda district, where it had been stranded for two days under suspicious circumstances.

Security around the vessel has been tightened, and the government has announced that a thorough investigation will be conducted regarding the cargo, its ownership, and its intended destination.

Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Aydiid Dirir, confirmed that authorities had seized the ship near Bareeda in the Bari region, which was allegedly transporting a mixed shipment of weapons and military vehicles belonging to the Somali federal government.

The minister stated that an investigation will be launched into the vessel, which had encountered distress in the Gulf of Aden, forcing it to approach the coast of Bari.

So far, no one has claimed ownership of the ship or provided details about its origin. When questioned about the matter, Somalia’s Defense Minister Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi avoided commenting.

The Sea World vessel, which was seized yesterday afternoon off the coast of Bareda in the Raas Asayr (Bari) region, has now been brought to Bossaso port under orders from the Puntland regional administration.
