Results of Hop 103 seat suspended, FEIT to launch probe

BAIDOA (SD) – Somalia’s federal electoral commission will investigate the process which led to the filling of seat 103 in Baidoa of Southwest state, the agency’s boss confirmed on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) chairperson, Mohamed Hassan Irro said agency will probe elections of seat 103 which previously held by former Lower House speaker Mohamed Jawari a days after the agency the election of the seat.

The chairman said they would meet with all the people involved in the seat, noting that they would look into how the seat was managed and the manner in which his election took place.

The development barely three days the elections of HOP 103 seat which Jawari earlier had sought to contest in.

On Saturday, FIET had suspended the election of the seat following the alleged influence from Villa Somalia and State President Abdiasis Lafta Gareen to lock him out.

Hours after, Southwest’s SIET rejected the FIET’s suspension over the seat, calling on the potential candidates and delegates for the participation of the process on Sunday.

The two-time speaker and veteran politician, who returned to Mogadishu from Baidoa town last Friday in press conference held in the capital accused Southwest State President Abdiasis Lafta Gareen of planning to lock him (Jawari) out.
