HARGEISA (SD) – The Somaliland Electoral Commission (SEC) has announced that Abdirashid Mohamud Ali (Riyo-raac) has been fired from his post and Kaltun Sheik Hassan Abdi has been elected chairperson.

Members of the opposition parties working with the commission spoke to the media, confirming the sacking of Riyo-raac and the election of Ms. Kaltun Abdi.

The announcement of the firing and the election of the new chairperson was removed from the Electoral Commission website, indicating a dispute.

A new statement posted on the website of the Somaliland Electoral Commission states that Abdirashid Mohamud Ali (Riyo-raac), is still the chairman.

This follows previous complaints from opposition National parties that the electoral process in Somaliland is deteriorating, due to President Bihi’s opposition to the upcoming presidential election.
