MPs trickling into Aviation amid election dispute

MOGADISHU (SD) – Some members of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have been arriving at the election venue at Aviation camp which is set to hold the election of the Speaker and deputies of the House of the People.

The number of MPs at the election venue are increasing, and it is expected that in the next few hours more MPs will arrive at the Tent.

According to reports, Somali police forces have closed the roads leading to the Aviation Tent, the troops are said to be blocking some lawmakers.

The country’s leaders are divided over the participation of Gedo lawmakers in the parliamentary elections for the speaker and his deputies.

Some lawmakers reportedly want to oust the elected members of parliament from Elwaq, who entered the polling station today.

Parliamentary elections are still in a state of uncertainty, and meetings are under way led by Prime Minister Roble to find a solution to hold parliamentary elections.
