The International Community Calls on Somali Unity in Fighting COVID-19

Mogadishu (SD) – A statement issued by international partners in Somalia said that they are commending the Somali government for its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“We know that the spread of the corona virus is a global challenge, and one that we should all face together. This response is one that requires unity and that we put violence aside,” the international community statement said.

They added that they supported the UN secretary general’s call for a ceasefire around the world. The also note in their statement, that this requires all parties involved in the Somali conflict to stop the violence.

“We call on al-Shabaab and other groups to stop the violence, and acts of terrorism to enable aid to reach those in need,” the statement said.

The international community has called for the federal government and the states unite to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Somalia. They propose to resolve existing disputes in a unified manner and that, if necessary, government meetings, regional administrations and parliamentary meetings should be digitized.

Finally, Somalia’s partners said in a time of crisis that the coronavirus has brought so much pressure on the international community that Somali authorities and displaced landlords of the displaced should completely stop the evacuation of their camps during the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
