Somali national and regional security conference is postponed again

Mogadishu (SD) – The Somali national and regional security conference, which was expected to formally open in Mogadishu on Sunday, July 5th, has been indefinitely delayed.

The conference was previously announced by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed (Farmajo), but was rejected by the presidents of the Jubaland and Puntland administrations.

This is the third time the federal president called for a national conference with member states and it seems to have been rejected again by the Somali Federal regional administrations, due to differences with Villa Somalia.

On the other hand, the leaders of Galmudug, Hirshabelle and Southwest regions have not yet traveled to Mogadishu to attend the conference.

There has been no official announcement from Villa Somalia about the delay or what the federal government’s plans are in bringing member states together.
