Villa Somalia Floats extension possibilities

Mogadishu (SD) – Villa Somalia has for the first time acknowledged the possibility of an term extension in the country, an option strongly warned against by political stakeholders, that could lead to further political turmoil.

Somali presidential information director Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed, who took part in a debate hosted by the BBC’s Somali Service, said a technical extension of several months could take.

“The term of the office of the president is four years, and elections must take place every four years. Technical difficulties may cause delays for two or three months, and that has happened in the past, ”said Director Abdinur.

The acknowledgement comes at a time were discussions between the federal government and the regional states are expected to d take place regarding holding timely elections in the country.

The federal government previously distanced itself from wanting an term extension and insisted on holding timely elections.
