Hargeisa (SD) – Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Qin Jian has arrived in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa today, as tensions remain high over the Somaliland-Taiwan agreement.
Qin Jian is to formally inform the Somaliland president of his government’s objection in establishing a full diplomatic relations with Taiwan, according to diplomatic sources.
Jian’s visit to Hargeisa is part of Beijing’s efforts to address issues surrounding Taiwan and Somaliland’s diplomatic cooperation.
Both Taiwan and Somaliland have declared their independence from China and Somalia respectively, though neither secured a fully recognized independence from the International community.
