Djibouti (SD) – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has issued a statement in response to Somalia’s allegations against Kenya.

The commission was appointed on IGAD’s last extraordinary summit in Djibouti on December 20, 2020 after the Somali government filed political complaints of interference against Kenya.

The commission said it found evidence that Kenya had violated Somalia’s airspace “The Somali federal government has ordered all flights to Kismayo pass through Mogadishu. However, Kenyan airlines ignored the order with no special permission or reason given. ”the statement said.

The IGAD Commission also stated in a statement that Kenya does not recognize Jubaland, despite Somalia’s accusations.

“The participation of two prominent Kenyan lawmakers, Aden Barre Duale and Yusuf Haji, in the inauguration of Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe does not constitute recognition,” the commission said in a statement.

Somali federal government allegation that a Kenyan armed militias led by Abdirashid Janan, the committee confirmed that Janan was a minister in the Jubaland administration, and that his forces were under the administration’s command.

Somali federal government cut all political ties with Kenya over allegations of political and internal interference and recalled its embassy staff from Nairobi, while expelling Kenya’s embassy staff in Mogadishu.

“The commission finds that the complaints from the Somali government, some of which have been on going, do not seem to be sufficient to justify the severance of diplomatic relations with Kenya. While it is true that Somali federal government of Somalia is independent in its decisions, ”said a statement from the group.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) says the deteriorating relations between Kenya and Somalia have affected 3,000 Somali students who used to cross the border for their education.

Somali government did not yet react to the report, but has continued its allegations against Kenya in the world arena.

Committee members include Yasin Elmi Bouh, Djibouti’s ambassador to Kenya, Aden Hassan Aden, Djibouti’s ambassador to Somalia, General Taher Ali Mohamed, Colonel Ali Aden Houmed, Colonel Mohamed Barkad Aden, and Commander Houssein Idriss Egueh, both members of Djiboutian military, and Commander Abebe Muluneh, IGAD security director.
