Mortar shells hit UN, AU compounds in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (SD) – Casualties are feared after at least six mortar shells landed at Halane area which hosts the UN and African Union mission Tuesday afternoon.

The attack which happened at about 1400hrs local time led to suspension of operations at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu for about half an hour.

Al-Shabaab militant group claimed responsibility for the attack saying their fighters hit the base with several shells.

The attack comes just hours after Jubbaland leader, Ahmed Mohamed Madobe arrived in Mogadishu attend FGS-FMS talks on poll which is expected to take place at the Airforce Hangar within Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu.

The militant group Al-Shabaab has carried out such attacks in the past.

The last such attack was in March last year which wounded thre people.
