Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland government has arrested today nine UAE men who were illegally hunting in Somaliland.

The men were arrested at Egal Hargeisa International airport on Tuesday morning as they were about to board an identified plane.

The Arabs had initially told the people of Sabo-Wanag, district in the Marodi-Jeh region, that they were carrying out projects but were found to be poaching.

The news was confirmed by Wildlife Director of the Somaliland Ministry of the Environment Nasir Hussein.

Somaliland have in recent years been experiencing uptick of illegal wildlife hunting, this is the first high profile arrest regarding this issue.
