Qatar Government announces start of Hobyo Port Construction Project

Mogadishu(SD)-The ministers of the ports of Qatar and Somalia, Jassim Bin Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti  and Maryam Aweys Jama announced today in Mogadishu that the construction of Hobyo port in Mudug region will begin.

The ceremony which was held at the Prime Minister’s office was attended by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre, Deputy Prime Minister, Qatar’s Foreign Minister. President of Galmudug, some members of the two Houses, Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia.

Qatar’s port minister thanked the country’s prime minister for the wide reception in Mogadishu, Qatari minister said they will build the Hobyo port the most modern way to build a port from today on, so that the Somali people will benefit form it.

Minister of Ports of the Federal Government of Somalia, Maryam Aweys Jama said that starting the port of Hobyo is crucial for Somali youth employment and economic development in the country.

In early December 2018, the Somali and Qatar governments signed development agreements with the city of Hobyo, including the construction of the Hobyo port.
