Somalia: Puntland President acknowledges Qatar is to blame for bombings

Garowe July 23,2019(SD)-Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni cites a report published in the New York Times, asking the Federal Government of Somalia to investigate the allegations in a report that Qatar is involved. ‘Bombings in Bosaso town of Bari region.

The president said the allegations in the New York Times newspaper’s Qatar-related report, the bombings in Bossaso and the killing of P&O Ports chief executive officer Paul Anthony Formousa, are valid and need to be addressed, a serious investigation is needed to address the matter.

“I acknowledge and trust that the report is a factual, and I am requesting the Upper House of the Somali Federal Parliament and the Somali government to do a thorough investigation. But it has created suspicions that some people have had, ”President Deni said.

The report included a story between the ambassador of Qatar in Somalia and businessman from the same country and talking about the bombings and killings in Puntland committed by person’s working for, the interests of Qatar, and for these working in the interest of the United Arab Emirates to flee the area, but the government of Qatar has denied the charges mentioned in the report.

The president’s statement comes a day after the New York Times published a report on the impact of the Gulf and Qatar conflict in Somalia, particularly on stability and security.
