Somalia, Saudi Arabia agree to unload ship carrying livestock from Somaliland

Mogadishu July 19,2019(SDN)-The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mahdi Mohamed Guled Khadar, who held a press conference at his office, spoke about a shipment of twenty thousand goats from Berbera port which was blocked at the Jeddah port town from July 11th. , 2019.

Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Guled Khadar said the federal government of Somalia has contacted the Saudi government for the release of the ship, but it was unclear why the vessel was banned from importing livestock imports since the two governments signed agreements earlier.

Somalia’s deputy Prime Minister Khadar Guled said that the FGS communicated with Saudi Arabia to grant this ship an exception on the previous agreements in order to benefit the Somali people who depend on livestock shipments. The Prime Minister also reiterated that both countries should continue to uphold the previous bilateral agreements as they relate to livestock shipping.

The Saudi government said that after the request of the Somali government they will allow the ship to unload and other shipments to be shipped to Saudi Arabia.
