Somaliland President Unveils First Phase of Berbera Port Construction and Modernization

Berbera (SD) – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, today unveiled a major expansion project and modernization of the Berbera International Port.

The opening ceremony of the Berbera port was attended by the President and international delegates from around the world, including an Emirati delegation led by the General Manager and Chairman of DP World, Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bin Suleiman. , a large delegation from Ethiopia led by the Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Ethiopia, Mr. Ahmed Shide accompanied by the Minister of Transport Ms. Dagmawit Moges Bekele and the President of the Somali Regional State, Mr. Mustafa Muhmmed Omar.

Also present were members of a delegation led by Former Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau Mr. Baciro Dja, delegation from Kenya, Ambassadors of the neighboring countries and Taiwan, international diplomats, leaders of the three national parties Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID, Berbera port officials, council members a number of ministers, parliamentarians and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, the Somaliland Ports Manager, Mr. Said Hassan Abdillahi, highlighted the significant progress that the port has made and the role it will play in job creation and the flow of various commodities from around the world.

The Minister of Finance Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Saad Ali Shire, also explained the benefits of the expansion of the Berbera port to the Somaliland community and communities in the Horn of Africa, and pointed out that it will boost Somaliland’s economy.

The Ministers of Finance and Transport of the Federal Government of Ethiopia, Mr. Ahmed Shide and Ms. Dagmawit Moges also addressed the ceremony, praising the progress made by the Republic of Somaliland and its role in facilitating and developing trade between Somaliland and Ethiopia.

The President of Ethiopia’s Somali Regional State, Mr. Mustafa Muhumed Omar, delivered a speech in which he focused on the benefits the local government expects from the expansion of the international port of Berbera and how it will strengthen trade between the two communities.

The Chairman and General Manager of DP World, Mr. Ahmed Suldan Bin Suleiman, also spoke about the importance of the port of Berbera to the region, he pointed out that as a company they have worked hard to modernize, and have completed everything that an international port needs.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi, concluded the ceremony by welcoming the international delegates and friends of Somaliland who attended the opening of the first phase of the Berbera Port Expansion, from around the world.

“Our work will boost our economy, attract international investment and create jobs, and I am grateful to the UAE government for its courage in investing so much in Somaliland, at the time, when many governments opposed the construction of the port, I am especially grateful to Sultan, the manager of DP World, for his resilience in the face of all of these pressures. ”said President Muse Bihi Abdi.

The President sent an important message to the people of Somaliland urging them to take advantage of the expanded port, openness, hospitality, hard work and facilitation, competence and commitment to compete in the world.
