Somaliland signs $ 7 million agreement with EU

Hargeisa (SD) – The government of Somaliland, led by Muse Bihi Abdi, has signed an agreement with the European Union today, following a massive ceremony in Hargeisa.

The agreement, worth US $ 7 million, was co-signed by Somaliland’s interior minister Mohamed Kahin Ahmed and EU envoy to Somalia, Nicolas Berlanga.

European Union Released, it seems, its First monetary boost for the Somaliland Economy Under Post-Election Agreement between the national parties.

Somaliland administration and military officials were also present at the signing ceremony.

The Somaliland interior minister said the agreement has been in the works for a long time and will be used to enhance the justice system and the army.

Also, Minister Mohamed Kahin Ahmed underlined his gratitude to the European Union, as they once again supported the Somaliland government, saying that this would further strengthen cooperation between the two parties.

For his part the Ambassador Nicolas Berlanga said the EU would increase funding for Somaliland projects.

It was yesterday when the two sides signed in Hargeisa a preserving an ancient historic tourism site in Laasgeel, Somaliland.

No details of this project have been released by both the EU and Somaliland government.
