WAJIR (SD) – The Torso of an assistant chief in Wajir county who has been missing since last Friday was found on a roadside in the county.

Omar Adan Buul, was kidnapped after suspected al-Shabaab fighters briefly took control of his village, Gumurey.

The head of the official was found by herders yesterday evening in an area between Khorof-harar and Linton localities.

Police officers were deployed at the scene to search for the remaining body of official.

Last week, heavily armed suspected al-Shabaab fighters had stormed Gumurey village, prompting half an hour clash with the police. The group managed to briefly seize the village.

During the fighting, the gunmen captured the chief and went away with him.
