Two killed in motor shell attack in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (SD) – Two people have been killed and seven others sustained injuries on Thursday after several mortar shells landed in a residential area near Somali Adan Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.

According to witnesses, a father and an infant were among the victims killed in the attack. The shelling also destroyed three houses in Wadajir district.

Somali government has not yet comment on the incident.

In a statement posted on its affiliate online media, al-shabaab militant group has claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying at least four mortar shells landed at Halane area which hosts the UN and African Union mission but the group did not mention any casualties.

The attack comes barely two weeks after similar one injured several people in UN compound, known as Camp Halane.

The militant group Al-Shabaab has carried out such attacks in the past.
