Uhuru Kenyatta: Our forces will not withdraw from Somalia until we have complete peace

Nairobi (SD)-Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the Kenya Defense Forces will remain in the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) until peace and stability in the Horn of Africa is restored.

“Our troops will remain with the Amisom until all the threats from the extremist groups in the Horn of Africa have been disrupted,” Uhuru said.

The Kenyan president made the statement during a ceremony marking the completion of a seventh batch at the Kenya Military Academy in Nakuru County on Thursday.

“The defense forces are doing their utmost to achieve lasting peace and development for Kenya and its neighbors.” Uhuru said.

Kenya Defense Forces entered Somalia in 2011 after several al-Shabaab attacks inside the country. The Kenyan troops later joined the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
