Bossaso (SD) – Reports from Af-urur village in Bari region say that Al-Shabaab militants fired mortar shells at a Puntland military base in Af-urur area this morning.
About 10 mortar shells were reportedly fired by Al-Shabaab at the base, but the troops said they had repulsed the Al-Shabaab attack.
At least two soldiers have been reportedly killed in the Al-Shabaab attack on the Af-urur military base.
Witnesses told the media that sporadic gunfire could later be heard in the mountains regions near the village.
This is not the first time al-Shabaab has attacked the village, in a 2017 attack Al Shabab killed more than 40 people in Af-urur.
Al-Shabaab frequently carries out ambush attacks in parts of Puntland, including landmines and ambushes.
