Beledweyne (SD) -Detailed reports are emerging of a fierce battle that took place today in the town of Caag Sibiri, one of the towns in the Farlibaax district of the Hiiraan region.

The battle involved clashes between local militia forces and members of the Al-Shabaab group, and it erupted after Al-Shabaab attacked the town’s security forces who were stationed there.

Official casualty figures from the battle between Al-Shabaab and the local militia in Caag Sibiri today are not yet known, but it is reported that a ceasefire was reached after an hour of intense fighting.

A commander from the local militia, speaking to the local media, stated that they successfully repelled the attack by Al-Shabaab, and the town is still under the control of government forces.

This attack comes as Al-Shabaab has recently increased its activities in the western parts of the Hiiraan region, following their withdrawal from all the towns in the eastern part of the Hiiraan region.
