Wajir (SD)- Al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for an attack they said caused casualties and injuries in the Wajir district in Northeastern Kenya.
Al-Shabaab owned media reported that members of their group have taken control of Koton Village near Wajir town, forcing troops stationed there to flee their bases.
Kenyan troops on their way to re-capture Koton from al-Shabaab militants were targeted by an explosion, causing casualties and injuries.
Al-Shabaab in a released statement claimed that they killed 30 Kenyan forces in the attack, injuring many more.
The Kenyan government has not yet commented on the Al Shabaab attack, which is becoming more and more brazen, especially in the border regions.
