Luuq (SD) – Reports from Gedo region indicate that the Al-Shabab militant group had attacked a Somali government armed forces stationed in Gedo region.

Al-Shabaab attacked government checkpoint at a bridge in Luuq-Ganaane district, and there was heavy gunfire exchange that lasted for nearly an hour, according to residents.

Government officials in Luuq district claimed victory in the battle against the Al Shabaab group that attacked the district.

Reportedly there are injured and dead fighters on both sides, but there are no official confirmation from the waring sides.

Fighting between government forces and Al Shabaab comes at a time when tensions are rising in the border areas of Gedo region between Kenya and Somalia.
