MOGADISHU (SD) – Al-Shabaab has admitted that senior officer Mohamed Mire was killed in an airstrike in southern Somalia.
Mire, known for his high-ranking leadership role within Al-Shabaab, was killed in an airstrike in the Kunyobarow area of the Lower Shabelle region, approximately 257 km southwest of the capital Mogadishu.
The United States had listed this leader as a highly sought-after terrorist in 2022.
It is believed that the United States carried out this airstrike, having previously targeted senior Al-Shabaab officials accused of planning and executing attacks against American interests.
This action comes at a time when military operations against Al-Shabaab, which is fighting the Federal Government of Somalia and the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces, have decreased.
