KISMAYO (SD)-The ATMIS forces have handed over the Abdalla Birole base in the Lower Juba region to the Somali National Army (SNA). This marks the fourth base to be transferred in the third phase of the ATMIS forces’ withdrawal from the country.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commander of ATMIS, Sivuyile Bam, who emphasized ATMIS’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s Transition Plan to restore peace and stability in the region.
Lieutenant Colonel Muxudiin Ahmed of the Somali National Army expressed gratitude to the ATMIS troops from Kenya for their sacrifices in contributing to the security of Jubaland.
Santosh Koka, an UNSOS Transition Planning Office official, stated that UNSOS will continue to provide logistical support to ensure a successful transition.
