Mogadishu (SD) – The Banadir regional administration has issued strict orders to agencies operating in the districts of Banadir region, especially those working on social issues that provide humanitarian assistance.
“After observing how the way in which the aid agencies work in the districts of Banadir region, we have decided to set up a system in place for each social agency to reduce the inconsistencies when it comes to distribution, data collection or evaluation.”
A statement from the Banadir regional administration’s deputy commissioner for social affairs said the agencies, both local and international, would no longer operate in the region unless they complied with the new directives.
“Social agencies cannot operate in Mogadishu without a permit from the office of the Banadir regional administration’s deputy commissioner for social affairs before the end of 2020,” the statement said.
The statement also stated that “the agency that does not register before 2021 will not work in any district of Banadir region.”
The state government has described the move as an increase in accountability for state agencies, especially those involved in social affairs, which they say are not functioning properly.
