Deadly Clan fighting erupts in Gedo

MOGADISHU (SD)-Details are emerging regarding a clan conflict in the Gedo region, resulting in significant casualties. Preliminary reports indicate that the fighting took place in the Luuq district, leading to numerous deaths and injuries.

Various sources confirm that at least ten individuals from both sides lost their lives in the conflict, with others sustaining serious injuries and being transported to hospitals in Luuq and the Ethiopian Military Medical Center located there. Peace appeals aimed at halting the fighting have surfaced over the past hours, although the situation remains highly tense.

This conflict has reignited despite previous peace efforts. Some reports suggest that officials from the Federal Government and Jubaland administration provided support to the factions involved in the fighting, indicating that attempts at reconciliation have failed.

The Luuq battle coincided with Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) opening a conference in Kismayo aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Luuq. However, the peace proposals arising from that meeting have not yet yielded any results, and while the situation in Luuq is currently calm, there are still concerns about the overall conditions.

Some of the injured are expected to be transported to Mogadishu for further medical treatment due to the severity of their injuries. The challenges in Luuq still require a lasting peace solution.
