MOGADISHU (SD) – The death toll of a suicide bomb blast has risen to 20 after two people succumbed to their injuries in a hospital in Somali capital.
A suspected al-Shabaab operative who was wearing suicide vest blew himself up at a busy coffee shop at the Juba intersection not too far away from Somalia’s national intelligence and security agency headquarters.
The attack happened on Friday evening.
The blast killed at least 18 people on the spot and left behind more twenty injuries.
According paramedics, some of the injuries who were admitted at Madina Hospital for treatment have succumbed to their injuries.
Al-Shabaab militant group, an al-Qaeda affiliate in East Africa has claimed the responsibility for the attack saying the target was Somali government soldiers in the area.
Elsewhere, two people were killed and four wounded on Friday in a blast in Awdinle town in the Bay region in the southern Somalia.
The blast which is suspected to have been concealed in paper bag happened at a market.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting for the past decade topple Somalia’s internationally backed weak government.
The group’s fighters also launch deadly attack on military bases of Somali soldiers and African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
