Deni and Madobe’s conditions for meeting with Farmajo

Mogadishu (SD) – The presidents of the Jubaland and Puntland administrations Ahmed Madobe and Said Deni have apparently set new conditions for their anticipated meeting with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

The two presidents who are in Mogadishu said they would not meet with President Farmajo unless other member state presidents of Somalia are present.

The new proposed terms by Ahmed Madobe and Deni may delay their expected meeting with President Farmajo even more, further complicating the country’s political discourse.

The latest escalation comes after last night’s announced meeting between the leaders was canceled due to Ahmed Madobe’s demand that the federal government withdrew its troops from Gedo region.

The stalemate further complicates the possibility of finding a lasting resolution on the country’s 2020/2021 election.
