Dispute resolution committee opposes Northern parliamentary election process

Mogadishu (SD) – The Indirect Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee has issued a press release regarding the upcoming Northern Regional Parliamentary Elections in Mogadishu.

The Committee said that they were responsible for adjudicating and resolving electoral disputes as well as being able to investigate complaints lodged by candidates and delegates.

The Dispute Resolution Committee objected to the Northern Regions Election Procedure which stated that any disputes arising from the Northern Regions Election would be resolved by the Chairman of the Somaliland Electoral Commission.

Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled (Khadar) and Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi recently issued a joint statement on the northern region’s parliamentary election process.

The statement from the Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee comes at a time when one of the seats in the Northern Regions is in dispute.

The Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee has called on the Northern Electoral Commission to rectify the shortcomings in the parliamentary elections, in particular Article 3, paragraph 12.
